Priyanka Chopra receives Dada Saheb Phalke Award

After garnering praises for her role in Baywatch, Priyanka Chopra has another reason to celebrate. Come June 1, PeeCee will be bestowed with the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award in a new category being introduced — Internationally Acclaimed Actress Award. Ashok Shekhar, the chairman of the Dada Sahab Phalke Award committee, said, “Yes, we have decided to introduce a fresh category in the awards list —Internationally Acclaimed Actress Award. There are no two ways about the fact that Priyanka Chopra is the only actress who truly deserves this award. She has consented for the same.”

This is not where the good news ends for Priyanka. Her awards shelf will have another trophy from the same awards. Joining her as a recipient of a Dada Saheb Phalke Award in the Best Film category will be her mother Madhu Chopra, who produced her debut regional film, the Marathi box-office hit,  Ventilator.

Dadashab Phalke Academy has been honouring talent from the Hindi and regional industry since 2000 and acknowledges 22 different crafts of the industry, right from make-up artists to spot boys. “With her hard and sincere efforts, Priyanka has placed the Indian industry in the international forum so powerfully. It compelled the organisers to introduce this fresh category in the award,” concludes Ashok.
