In the name of Osho

The Foundation has clearly stated that any filmmaker wanting to make a film or series based on the life of Osho must seek its permission.

The Osho biopic is getting to be as complicated and mysterious as the man himself. After names like Shakun Batra, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt and even Jacqueline Fernandez being thrown around in association with the project, the Zurich-based Osho International Foundation has put a proverbial spanner in the works.

Jacqueline, who’s a big fan of the Netflix web-series based on Osho’s life, has reportedly expressed an interest in playing Maa Sheela. And Aamir and Alia are rumoured to be possible candidates to play the leads in a biopic to be directed by Shakun Batra.

Meanwhile, the Osho International Foundation has published a notice stating, “The use of any intellectual property owned by the foundation requires prior authorisation. Various copyrighted books and audio-video recordings of Osho, including the Autobiography of a Spiritually Incorrect Mystic and Glimpses of Golden Childhood, cannot be used by anyone without authorisation.”

The Foundation has clearly stated that any filmmaker wanting to make a film or series based on the life of Osho must seek its permission.

Back in the day, the controversial godman had a brush with some Bollywood biggies, including late Vinod Khanna, late Parveen Babi and filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. And sources in the industry say that it’s unlikely that Aamir and Alia will agree to do a film about him.

“Going by Mahesh Bhatt’s past record with Osho, it seems unlikely that Alia will even get close to being a part of the film. And Aamir has not greenlighted any project apart from Thugs of Hindostan. We need to wait a while before painting the town saffron with this news,” a source says.
