Bollywood's fight for Independence (Day)
It will be John Abraham’s brawn that will take on Kangana Ranaut’s sword and Akshay Kumar’s hockey stick this Independence Day.
The box office will witness a three-way clash now on August 15 and the earnings of all these biggies are bound to eat into each other.
“Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi is a patriotic film as it deals with Rani Lakshmibai’s fight against the British. It will look at a good weekend and the Independence Day period suits best. Earlier the film was to release in April, but there was a lot of work left to be done,” says a trade source, adding, “Satyamev Jayate also sounds like a patriotic subject and hence the date suits them too. And Gold is the story of India’s first gold win in hockey post-independence. Though the date is apt for all three films, the clash will cannibalise into each other’s collections. That is because the subjects and the mood reflect the same feel.”
Will any of these filmmakers relent and shift dates, is what remains to be seen.
