Veteran actress left in the lurch

Hospital sources add that Geeta is depressed and is more of a nervous wreck, scared and has incoherent speech at times.

Just like several stars from the era gone by, Geeta Kapoor too, has been living a life of penury, abandoned by her own son, Raja Kapoor at the SRV Hospital in Mumbai’s suburban Goregaon, as alleged by her. Geeta has films like Pakeezah, Mughal-E-Azam, Razia Sultan and Pyaar Karke Dekho, etc., to her credit.

Shocked and saddened at her own state, the former actress was quoted as saying that she had been starving for four days before reaching the hospital. Sources in the hospy inform that the son left to withdraw money to pay her pending bills, never to return! Geeta has now been in the hospital for a month.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, who has been very vocal about issues concerning the movie industry, read this story and paid her a visit at the hospital. “I have seen her films and I could not recognise her because she was in bad shape,” says Pandit.

Hospital sources add that Geeta is depressed and is more of a nervous wreck, scared and has incoherent speech at times.

“I am ready to do everything for her. If I give a shout, there are so many people in the film industry who can help her out. But I will need an NOC from the immediate family to let me not only complete her treatment, but get her discharged from the hospital and get her a good place to stay,” says Pandit, adding, “It is fine if her son doesn’t want to take care of her.”

Pandit and filmmaker Ramesh Taurani have cleared all the pending bills, but now await the son to release his mother to a world that loves her films and cares for her.
