Rains kill Govinda's vibe
Mumbai’s rains play spoilsport, rudely interrupting Govinda’s dance performance as he shoots for his comeback film Rangeela Raja on Wednesday.
The actor is shooting at a suburban studio with producer Pahlaj Nihalani, the man who introduced him to the world of Hindi cinema 32 years ago in Ilzaam, and the camaraderie between the two is palpable.
“Look at what Pahlaj is making me do! I am supposed to be shooting a song today, and we are stranded because of the rains. I have three heroines in the film, but none of them is here today to keep me company,” Govinda jokes.
He is happy to be back doing what he enjoys the most — dancing. Having spent decades in the industry, he commands a huge fan following, as is evident from the popularity of the “Dancing Uncle” video, in which a middle-aged man named Sanjeev Shrivastava apes Govinda’s iconic moves.
“God bless Sanjeev Shrivastava. If my dancing has helped him find fame, I am happy and grateful that God has given me a talent that others can also use,” Govinda says, warmly.
He also feels that he needs to re-invent himself as an actor and a dancer.
“I’ve been through so many experiences. I feel like I am entering a new phase in my life,” he says.
