Katy Perry dubs 'Swish Swish' as her anti-bully anthem
Mumbai: As for 'Swish Swish,' Katy Perry may not be naming any names, but she's also not denying speculation that the diss track featuring Nicki Minaj might be in response to Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood.'
When Jimmy Fallon asked the 32-year-old singer on The Late Show if ' Swish Swish' was "about anybody we know?," she replied raising her eyebrows, "I think it's a great anthem for people to use whenever somebody's trying to hold you down or bully you."
"That's kinda what this record is about, it's just like 360-degree liberation," she said, referring to her upcoming fifth studio album 'Witness.' "[First single] 'Chained to the Rhythm' was this political liberation, [second single] 'Bon Appetit' was a sexual liberation and now, I think this is kind of, 'Swish' represents the liberation from all the negative that doesn't serve you."
Earlier, speculations were rife that Swift's 2014 revenge anthem 'Bad Blood' is about Perry.
That year, Swift told Rolling Stone, "For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not," she said. "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?'"
In 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, the 'Shake It Off' songstress revealed about the 'horrible' thing that the other singer did.
"I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies,'" she said. "And it wasn't even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I'm surprisingly non-confrontational-you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It's awkward, and I don't like it."
A day after the article was published, the 'Roar' singer tweeted, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..."
