Sanket Banker turns musician; makes waves on social media

What does it take to pursue one’s dream of producing independent music, but at the same time to keep up with parents’ well-intentioned wish for their kid to pursue higher studies and take up a corporate job. “Quite a lot” says Sanket Banker, a banker-turned- singer, who adds “we need to carefully allocate our time and efforts,  and also need to be regular and consistent in our efforts”.   

Sanket Banker is an independent singer, performer and a popular Youtuber, whose music videos garnered close to 3 million views on Youtube last year. Sanket loves to produce music with relationships as their central theme. His latest release “Tu Dost Hai Mera”, a friendship anthem was released by Hungama Artist Aloud in August. The same month, he also released a Nepali song “Baini Ko Prem” on the theme of bitter-sweet relationship between brothers and sisters, in collaboration with the celebrated Nepali singer, Anju Panta.

Besides producing music, Sanket is also a successful banker-cum-investor. Although his dream was always to be a playback singer, his mother being concerned of the rigours of the industry and the time required to establish oneself in a music career had placed a pre-condition that Sanket should pursue MBA degree from a leading institute. Sanket did complete his MBA from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Kozhikode, post which he also took up a job offer at a leading American bank. However, Sanket never lost sight of his dreams and despite the heavy workload and severe time constraints, always took out time for riyaaz and pursued his passion for music relentlessly alongside his successful banking career. He honed his skills by studying classical music at the Shankar Mahadevan Academy and is also vocally trained at the Berklee School of Music.
 

Sanket and his band have performed at several prestigious venues and  have also featured on Doordarshan Sahyadri’s chat show in January 2019. Sanket's songs are available on all leading streaming platforms and his music videos can be viewed at his Youtube channel
