The buzz surrounding the biopic on former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Jayalalithaa, Thalaivi, just got bigger. The Kangana-Ranaut starrer has now a new addition to its ensemble cast.
We hear that the makers of Thalaivi have handpicked actor Jisshu Sengupta to enact yesteryear Shoban Babu in the A.L.Vijay directorial.
Rumour had it that Shoban Babu and Jayalalithaa were in a relationship back then. Thus, given the significant impact late Shoban Babu had a on the life of Jayalalithaa, the film’s producer Vishnu Induri had been contemplating for a while about whom to cast for the prestigious role.
“It wasn’t an easy task for Vishnu to get someone on board to play Shoban Babu’s role. But taking into account Jisshu Sengupta’s earlier performances, the filmmakers felt that they could capitalise on his looks to bring alive the yesteryear actor,” informs a source close to the unit. Interestingly, when the filmmakers approached Jisshu for the part, he let them know that he had watched Shoban Babu’s films. “Jisshu instantly agreed to play the part, and has even started preparing for the role. Even as the actor has begun watching Shoban Babu’s earlier films, he will undergo grooming sessions to get his looks right,” adds the source.
Jisshu recently made his Telugu debut in the Naga-Shaurya starrer, Aswathama, which bombed at the box office.
