Jag Chima, CEO of Physique Global and world renowned fitness entrepreneur, congratulates the nation on getting recognition from the Prime Minister that we need to give importance to our health.

“While it’s very good talking about creating a fitter nation, we need to be taking active steps, using accountable tools so that we can track progress and don't forget how important it is to remain fit and healthy. Even if it means starting off by doing a daily walk.” He said.

According to the fourth National Family Health Survey - the latest survey of pan-India health: “Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 60 percent of all deaths in India. The major metabolic risk factors for NCDs are obesity, raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose, and raised total cholesterol levels in the blood.”

•    Obesity: A study funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Indian Council of Medical Research, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation found that 20.4 per cent of Indian adults were overweight in 2016. India has the second highest number of obese children in the world, with 14.4 million reported cases, according to a study published in The New England Journal of Medicine in 2015.

•    Cardiovascular diseases: In 2016, cardiovascular diseases led to more than 28 per cent of all deaths in India, according to a study published in The Lancet Global Health, a peer-review journal.

•    Hypertension: According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, one in four Indians has hypertension. High blood pressure affects multiple organs, including the eyes, heart and kidneys. Earlier this year, the ICMR expanded its India Hypertension Control Initiative to 100 districts.

•    Diabetes: With more than 72 million people living with diabetes, India has become the diabetes capital of the world.

Jag Chima further said: “Simple daily activities like walking, yoga, cycling, making better food choices, drinking enough water, avoiding smoking, alcohol, oily foods and involving in sports activities will make a huge difference in the long run and plays a vital role in preventing such diseases. “

Jag Chima stated “Health and fitness is more important than ever in our current busy lifestyles. We shouldn’t only talk about fitness, but should also back it up with actions. The technology that exists today allows us to plan and track our activities and be accountable, we should leverage that.”

“The main aim of our gyms, online portals, workshops and seminars has been to help people by providing them the right education. We also believe that the fitness education should start at a very early stage from school and should be embedded into the curriculum of schools. We have also trained over 4,000 Fitness professionals from our platforms, who will help spreading the right education of health and fitness and help us in creating a fitter nation.” he added.
