Relationships are not hard, says Wiz Khalifa

Hip-hop superstar Wiz Khalifa, who is visiting India for the first time, talks about his love for music and his expectations from the country.

Except his love for marijuana, not much can be said for sure about Wiz Khalifa. One of hip-hop’s superstars, he’s known to be unpredictable and nonchalant, something that reflects in the way he makes his music. All set to play in India at the Timeout Festival 2017 in Goa where several other artistes from across the world including the likes of Martin Garrix and Jason Derulo are set to perform, the artiste takes time out for a quick interview.

This is your maiden visit to India. Any expectations?
I’m excited to visit India. I am keeping an open mind and going to embrace the culture as soon as I land.

Anything about the country that you’d like to explore?
I am looking forward to meeting the people and my fans. I love travelling to be closer to my fans.

Would you be interested in collaborating with Indian musicians, given a chance?
I don’t currently have any specific plans but I am always want to working with a dope artiste no matter where they are from. I am always open to new collaborations. I would have to be in the booth and listening to the track but I can add to anything thrown my way so that it connects with everyone.

Having done multiple tours across the world, is there a particular way you gear up to perform?
Every performance is different. But no matter where I am, I like to roll up some Khalifa Kush and smoke with my homies.

As a vocal advocate and user of marijuana, how do you feel about the worldwide uproar and constant debate about legalising the herb?
I definitely think it should be legal. Weed is not bad for you.

How easy or difficult is it to strike a balance with your personal life? Can you make time for a steady relationship?
It’s not hard. I just have to realise my priorities and never let go of that.

Did travelling elaborately as a kid influence your music?
Not exactly. But every part of my story has an influence on what I create.

Who’s your favourite artiste in the present generation?
Right now? Probably Ty Dolla $ign. He just dropped Beach House 3 and every song on there is a smash.
