Lakme Fashion Week: A touch of modernity

Designer Anand Kabra’s show at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer edition held in Mumbai lived up to the promise of grandeur.

Designer Anand Kabra’s show at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer edition held in Mumbai lived up to the promise of grandeur. Kabra who prefers not to showcase in the main show area, stuck to patterns as he transformed the level 6 parking space at the sprawling St. Regis hotel into a grand venue for his creations to unfold. His line of party and bridal wear was a melange of traditional ensembles that displayed the designer’s fascination for Indian embroidery such as gota, aina, resham, zar and pitta.

The colour palette consisted of beige, maroon, midnight blue and gold. The silhouettes that glided through comprised lehengas, shararas, floor-length anarkalis, jackets and sarees. There was also a traditional rendition of the jumpsuit that stood out, in midnight blue teamed with a gold-embroidered jacket. A beige cotton saree, featuring the traditional Hyderabadi style zardosi work called zar on the border was worn with a metallic gold jacket. The line was every bit for the bride that likes to experiment and walk the thin line between the traditional and the new age woman.
