Spruce up your wardrobe

The New York Fashion Week Spring 2016 saw fresh, modish trends emerge. Even though some trends like the hippie chic and culottes resurfaced, designers have been sure to give them a new-fangled avatar. Tangerine, vermilion, marigold and pumpkin are back in vogue and for those of you who want to bring out the superhero in you, layered outfits with capes and jackets too are popular.

Models, actors and celebrities alike found platforms like the People’s Choice Awards to display the best of best designs from recent collections of designers like Burberry, Antonio Berardi, Ellie Saab and others. But what were the trends that really stood out Take a look: Shades of orange:

This bright hue was a popular choice among many designers — naturally, its vibrancy is bound to add a pop of colour and turn heads, be it in the form of a gown, skirt or Oxford shirts (which are ‘in’ this season as well) Off shoulders and shoulder cutouts:

Carly Steel killed it at the People’s Choice Awards in a black and red shoulder cutout dress by Gauri and Nainika. It’s time to show off your collarbones in these smart ‘cold shoulder’ numbers.

Fringed hems:

Fringes were an integral part of many collections last season and even last year, but one couldn’t help but notice its excessive usage in the Spring ‘16 show. Polo Ralph Lauren and Christian Siriano’s outfits dominated the ramp. If you’re looking to try a classic boho look, fringes and even crochet are your new best friends. Nautical details and stripes:

Finding the right kind of prints for your body structure is always a challenge but here’s your chance to explore. The runways at the NYFW were full of smart white, blue and black prints — ship ahoy in deed! Toggles and ropes on dresses in solid colours are a favourite as well.
