Bengaluru FC recorded a 5-3 win over Ayeyawady United FC in their AFC Cup Group H encounter here on Wednesday. The result also gave them second place in the group with six points.

C.K. Vineeth was the star of the match with a goal and two assists while Alwyn George showed his class with a double. Seiminlen Doungel and Beikhokhei Beingaichho added a goal apiece.

For the opposition, Christopher Chizoba scored a double while Thiha Zaw struck once.

The hosts looked comfortable right from the off with Vineeth playing off the shoulders of the defenders. In the 20th minute, Vineeth latched on to a rather daft pass and rounded the keeper before stroking it in.

The Myanmar side drew parity when Zaw turned in Yakubu Abubakar’s cross just before half time.

After the break, the home side raced to a two goal lead with with Alwyn converting on his second attempt from a Vishal Kumar cross in the 60th minute and Doungel finding the net after latching onto a Vineeth flick on six minutes later.

As they did in the first half, the Kyaw Lwin-coached side again drew parity as Christopher Chizoba struck in the 69th minute and then again, nine minutes later.

The JSW side continued to raid forward and deservedly went ahead 10 minutes from time when substitute Beingaichho turned in Vineeth’s drilled cross from the left. Alwyn added the exclamation with his second in the 89th minute.

Bagan on verge of knockout round PTI adds: Mohun Bagan played out a 1-1 draw against Yangon United in their away match to put themselves in line for a historic knockout berth.

Trinidadian striker Glen Cornell scored the equalising goal in the 41st minute after Brazilian forward Adilson Dos Santos had put Yangon in front in the 25th minute at the Youth Training Centre.

Myanmar National League champions Yangon United thus ended Mohun Bagan’s AFC Cup winning streak of three games, including a 3-2 victory over the same opponents in the first leg match in Guwahati last month.

Nonetheless, it was a creditable show for Sanjoy Sen’s boys to come out unscathed in an away match, more so after four winless games in the domestic I-League.
