Spurs show some spunk
The biggest compliment that Tottenham Hotspur can receive at this moment is that they are the most un-Tottenham side in recent times.
The North London club has been there or thereabouts in the top six of the Premier League and once in a while even cracked the coveted Champions League spot. But through it all, there was always the sinking feeling that the team would fold towards the end of the season despite impressive form that at times even translated to title talk. But if there was one thing you could count on, that was for Spurs to stumble, come end of the season.
This season looks different. Not only is the team not riding on individual brilliance of a certain Welsh winger but on the collective efforts across the pitch, the Spurs side finally looks balanced and downright scary with potential. Mauricio Pochettino has assembled a talented and a young side and imbibed them with his ideology of high pressing and defensive solidity and looks to have found the best personnel in the key places. He has also managed to get the best out of the squad.
The biggest difference was the transfer of centre-back Toby Alderweired and young Dele Alli, both looking like potential transfers of the season. The former made the side into a gritty defensive unit which has conceded the least amount of goals in the season while the latter is quickly becoming the talisman for England’s Euro aspirations.
As it stands, the season which has so far been riddled with upsets and the inexplicable, Spurs look like the lone club in the league that has shown some semblance of consistency.
And while it might still be a stretch, there wouldn’t be many raised eyebrows if the London side were to make a push for the title at the end of the season.
A refreshing change from all the other teams who look like they are uninterested in taking it.
