Aditi, Vani eye good run on home turf

In all, 17 Indians, who are in the fray, are expected to hold their own in a star studded field at the Hero Women's Indian Open.

While the likes of two-time major winner Brittany Lincicome, Order of Merit leader Beth Allen and defending champion Emily Kristine Pedersen focus on the big prize, a few in the Indian contingent too have their eyes on the glittering trophy at the $400,000 Hero Women’s Indian Open, which gets under way at the DLF Golf and Country club in Gurgaon on Friday.

With Aditi Ashok already a regular on the Ladies European Tour, which co-sanctions the event with the Women’s Golf Association of India, the likes of Vani Kapoor and Amandeep Drall will seek to keep the title at home in the 144-strong field.

In all, 17 Indians are in the fray and with both Amandeep and Vani in good form, they are expected to hold their own in a star studded field.

Amandeep currently leads the Hero Order of Merit with four victories in 12 appearances this season. Last month, she emerged winner at the domestic tour event as this venue, which is also Vani’s home course.

“It is a big advantage that we are playing in home conditions and I am confident coming into the tournament and will try my best to get good scores,” Amandeep said.

Vani has six titles so far in the season and is currently second in the money list.
