R&B singer John Legend has backed his fellow artiste Beyoncé and the band Dixie Chicks, after the two were hit by racial abuse online for their collaborative performance at the Country Music Awards, this past week.
Defending country music, that has been criticised for its history of being non-race inclusive, John told TMZ.com, “There’s a problem with racism in America; I’m not going to blame country music for it. I know a lot of great country music artistes and writers, I don’t think it’s their issue. I think it’s an American issue.”
John also said that it probably wasn’t the CMA’s fault for pulling down the video of their performance from their website — “They probably weren’t used to getting that much hate of their site and probably wanted to scrub it of the hate.”
