In the past week, the Internet has seen a lot of Divyanka Tripathi and her husband Vivek Dahiya. Everything, from her designer lehenga, haldi ceremony and even mangal sutra shopping, was trending on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. The Yeh Hai Mohabbatein actress had initially claimed that her wedding was going to be a private affair, and when it blew out of proportion, it began to look more like an event organised by her PR, rather than a wedding!

But a number of celebrities have begun to go a tad bit overboard with their personal lives, all of a sudden. Fans of these stars who were initially ecstatic about getting details on their favourite celebrities relationships and personal lives, also seem to have had enough. They are now left wondering why the news of celebrity weddings and babies is trending and much more talked about than world events.

While a number of people are speaking out about the importance given to seemingly menial celebrity gossip, over world affairs, psychologists seem to think differently. “It is important to keep in touch with the latest news and events taking place, but negative news and events can have a negative impact on the psyche. To maintain a balance, it is important to focus equally on the positive and the negative. Constant news about disasters, killings, murders cause emotional and mental strain, which is not good because people are already stressed about a number of problems in their own lives. Which is why people try and to focus on and celebrate the joys of other people, for their own mental health and stability,” reasons Dr. Prithvi SP, a psychologist.
