The Road to Recovery: Campus Placements at Ajeenkya DY Patil University spiral
“What is the university doing to ensure our children are equipped for campus placements?” is the top question emerging from anxious parents of final year students at Ajeenkya DY Patil University (ADYPU). And a valid question it is, given the 18 months of campus closures, the Indian education sector faced, and is barely surfacing from, due to the pandemic. However, despite the devastating impact of Coronavirus and its profound influence on the economy, the university has reported a healthy uptake in campus placements from jobs fairs and consultations that have been conducted mostly online. While this is undoubtedly the result of a strong economic recovery, Universities are also attributing campus placements to the quick steps they’ve had to take to coach and educate their students to the new post-pandemic job market.
This year we saw an encouraging response from India Inc, with 80% of our students of class 2020-21 finding placements through campus initiatives. This is the result of a strong, well planned and fast-paced strategy put in place by our Career Services teams, who have gone the extra mile to study how recruiters are hiring during the pandemic, and change the campus placement program to evolve with the needs of the market.
So far, the University has seen 401 top-level companies, including the likes of Amazon, Wipro, Royal Enfield, TCS, Skoda Volkswagen, Tata Motors, Bentley Systems, Marriott, LG Electronics, Capgemini, Infosys, Siemens, Fiat and Cannon, among others, visiting the campus, and 701 jobs handed out to students.
According to our internal survey, Information Technology followed by Engineering have been the two of the most coveted streams, followed by steady interest across all other programs on offer including hotel management, business management, design, media, architecture, law and the arts. The average take-home salaries been offered have ranged between Rs. 4.5 and Rs. 5.5 LPA for students graduating in the 2020-21 academic year, with 40 job offers falling into the high-paying annual bracket of Rs. 26 Lac and above. This positive response to placements has been the result of a definitive action plan that has been put into place in line during the pandemic.
The ADYPU Industry Institute Interaction Cell and Placement Cell has brought two full-time career counselors on campus to educate and coach students for interviews online. This included helping students with the entire application process, from identifying jobs based on personal skills to prepare them each step of the way, from oral and written reporting, online quizzes to public speaking and performance reviews.
Universities and colleges across the country, along with ADYPU have had to change how they provide careers services as employers have changed how they recruit prospective employees.
University and college efforts have been underpinned by a recovering job market which has seen a whopping 60% year-on-year increase in the number of active openings for white-collar professionals in September, according to research.
We understand how challenging these times are for students, but things are looking up now; we are on the road to recovery, and the strong response to campus placements is a reflection of that, and we are committed to providing our students with the best opportunity in and out of school, during and after their time with us.
