A former social media manager, Thomson Sequeira took quite a leap of faith when he quit his steady job to focus on blogging as a career
In a freewheeling chat, Thomson Sequeira shares tales of surviving tough times and how that is part and parcel of the journey of being an influencer…
With each passing season, the number of people waiting for fashion house look books keep getting smaller - and why should they? When you can simply follow the most fashionable young guns on social media and be treated to new follow-worthy trends everyday while warming your arm chair with a hot cuppa in hand. Take the top Insta sensation Thomson Sequeira, for instance. Women want tips from him regarding what stylish gifts to get for their brothers and male partners while the men in question may already have ripped a page or two out of Thomson’s stylebook before walking out of the door, every single day. No wonder his fan base is seeing a strong upward trend and brands are making a beeline for his door. But is being an influencer as smooth as he makes it seem or is there copious work that goes on in the undocumented background? Let’s just ask him how he started out and where he sees himself today.
A former social media manager, Thomson Sequeira took quite a leap of faith when he quit his steady job to focus on blogging as a career. Giving us a peek at his influencer journey, Thomson says – “My journey has been full of ups and downs but I was inspired by certain influencers to live my life on my terms and showcase my talent. And I did just that!”
Balancing a 9 to 5 job and an all-consuming passion on the side was not easy, but Thomson made it work by sheer will. “At the beginning of my blogging career, I worked hard at my job through the week, and then shot and created my personal content over the weekends. Sure, it was very difficult! It was like working two full-time jobs simultaneously but the rewards, when they arrived, were sweet as well. Slowly, brands started approaching me and I started making money off my passion. So, in January 2020, I was emboldened to quit my job and start blogging full-time.”
But with the pandemic arriving unannounced, it was not as easy as a pie. Talking about what came next, he shares that “My schedule for March was booked as was the year ahead with big projects and suddenly we came face-to-face with COVID! What followed was the roughest patch of my life - I was completely broke as the collaborations vanished but I held on and refused to give up on my dreams so easily. Gradually, as normalcy returned to our world so did the projects and now my dreams are finally coming along. So, it was a good, yet tough, decision to hang in there and build my social profile even when the going got rough, really rough,” Thomson shares.
Revealing how he found his niche, Thomson points out that “Travelling has always been my passion and I knew, to become a good Instagram influencer, I had to follow it. As appreciation for my work grew, I realised I could create unique content around travel, lifestyle and fashion wherein I could inspire people just as I was at one time! My motto in life is ‘do what you love and do it passionately’ and success will be yours to take. And even in the tough times such as the one we just lived through; I have followed my passion for almost two years straight without buckling because it is what I really love to do.”
His passion is clear for all to see in his regular campaigns with Myntra, Amazon and Flipkart. Thomson has also done amazing work with world-class brands like Land Rover, Vespa, US Polo, Frederique Constant and Guess watches, Fab India, Wrangler, Pinterest India, The Collective, Nautica, Marks & Spencer, Westside, Hidesign, Jack & Jones, Koovs among many others. Thomson recently created a video for Kohler Experience Centre in Mumbai and his video for the Oberoi Mall, Mumbai, went viral after it was shared on their handles as well.
What does he think is his USP? Thomson answers this question with a smile. “I have always believed in creating content that is refreshing, innovative and out-of-the-box. I believe in doing something which appeals to my adventurous spirit and that is the quality that reflects in all the work I do. I think that’s the factor my followers love the most,” he signs off.
