Two Army officers and a corporal were killed Sunday fighting militants holed up in a multistorey building outside Pampore in J&K since Saturday evening. Army and police sources said the militants, believed to be one local and two foreigners, used “dodging” tactics against the combat forces and used their ammunition judiciously. Before troops stormed it around noon Sunday, the militants were advantageously positioned in the main concrete multistorey block at J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute campus at Pampore, 16 km south of Srinagar.

The slain Armymen were identified as Capt. Pawan Kumar of the Army’s 10 Para and Capt. Tushar Mahajan and Lance Naik Om Prakash of 9 Para. Capt. Mahajan was from Udhampur district, Capt. Kumar from Jind in Haryana and Lance Naik Prakash from Shimla.
