The Assam police on Friday rescued Adishri Dutta a Class two student of Delhi Public School who was abducted by a gang of abductors on Thursday from her home in Jaynagar area of the capital city.
Police have also arrested six persons connected with the case while the driver of the OLA cab who used his car in kidnapping the girl is absconding.
Informing that abductors wanted to hand over the girl to some militant organisation in order to extort the family, the outgoing commissioner of Guwahati Police Mr Mukesh Agarwal told reporters that quick and coordinated operation of Assam Police helped them in rescuing the girl within few hours of her kidnapping. Adishri, was rescued from Khudro Bamunbari in Sarthebari in Barpeta districts about 70 kms from here. Six persons identified as Rumi Das, Anowar Hussain, Nirmal Kalita were arrested from Sarthebari, while Danesh Ali, Lokman Ali, Tinku Ali were arrested from Barpeta for involvement in the case. The police said that the abductors were planning to hand over the victim to rebels of NDFB (S) which had plan to demand a ransom. Adishri is the daughter of a doctor couple — Dr Diganta Dutta and Dr Aminakshi Dutta.
The abductors had hatched a conspiracy with Rumi Das, who was working as a help at the house of Dr Dutta, to lure Adishri on the pretext of taking her to a journey.
Rumi had changed her mobile SIM card soon after kidnapping. However, police traced the location of the kidnappers based on calls made by Rumi.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday congratulated the Assam Police for recuing the girls safely from abductors. The incident had created tension in Guwahati with parents pleading to abductors to release their daughter.
