Action on secular alliance leaders
Heads are likely to roll within the Grand Secular Alliance as demands to initiate action against leaders indulging in anti-party activities surfaced on Sunday.
The idea, according to sources, was floated by JD(U) leaders after chief minister Nitish Kumar had asked state president of JD(U) to prepare a list of all its leaders who had gone against the party line during the recently held Assembly elections in Bihar.
JD(U) sources said the party has already started preparing an internal report and a list of all such leaders who had helped opponents. According to a senior JD(U) leader, “the action is likely against most district-level leaders, including some former MLAs”.
Clarifying the party’s stand on the issue, JD(U) state President Basisth Narayan Singh said, “The party is preparing a list of leaders who acted against the party line during the recently held Assembly election.”
“Other allies, not just the JD(U), should also initiate action against such leaders who indulge in anti-party activities,” Mr Singh added.
Though Mr Singh refused to say whether the JD(U) was planning an internal reshuffle, highly placed sources hinted that a decision in this regard was likely after disciplinary action against dissident leaders.
The party had earlier met in Patna and New Delhi and had decided to discuss the issue.
Claiming to have already taken action against 56 party leaders after polls the congress party on Sunday indicated that they would soon begin an internal assessment of such kind of activities and begin a crackdown on dissident leaders. The RJD too assured the leaders of Grand Secular Alliance that they would begin action against their dissident leaders soon.
Sources said RJD chief Lalu Yadav has directed the state president to prepare a list of leaders indulging in anti-party activities. According to RJD state president Ram Chandra Purvey, “the party will begin crackdown against leaders after national executive meet”.
