Ajmal is Assam Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief again
In what may upset the election strategy of the ruling Congress party in Assam, the All-India United Democratic Front president Badruddin Ajmal was re-elected as the president of Assam State Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. Soon after his election Mr Ajmal launched a frontal attack on Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi accusing his government of failing to utilise the central government fund meant for the development of minorities in the state. Though, Mr Gogoi has started offering an olive branch to Mr Ajmal by attending the function of his educational trusts, the AIUDF has ruled out the possibility of an alliance with Assam Congress led by chief minister Tarun Gogoi. Mr Gogoi on many occasions dubbed him a communal leader during the state assembly elections. It is significant the AIUDF, which has one MP, is partner of UPA in New Delhi. This was the second time the AIUDF chief was re-elected as Jamiat president since the organisation was floated in 2011 after breaking away from the Asad Madani-led Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind.
