Sharad Yadav extends support to Lalu Prasad

The quantum of punishment for Lalu and 15 other convicted in the fodder scam case will be pronounced on January 3.

Patna: Veteran socialist and dissident JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav has extended his “full support” to RJD chief Lalu Yadav, who was sent to jail after he was held guilty in the fodder scam case.

The senior leader met the RJD chief’s wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi at her official residence in Patna. When asked about his meeting Sharad said, “In the new year we will start a new war against our opponents”.

Sources claim that Sharad was also not happy with the Jharkhand government after his request to hold a meeting with Lalu inside Birsa Munda jail was turned down by the authorities.

Sharad had requested the authorities for a meeting on January 2, but he was not allowed by officials on grounds that the meeting on Tuesday was against the prison manual.

The meeting between Rabri and Sharad took place amid reports that the RJD is planning to launch a massive agitation later this month against the BJP.

The RJD has called a meeting of its functionaries, including district and block unit heads on January 6 to discuss the party’s future course of action.

According to Tejashwi Yadav, people of Bihar are not happy with the way BJP has been using investigating agencies against his father Lalu out of “vendetta politics”.

The quantum of punishment for Lalu and 15 other convicted in the fodder scam case will be pronounced on January 3. RJD insiders said that senior party workers, including Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi, are seeking legal advice in order to challenge the verdict in the high court.
