Lucknow: In a rare display of communal harmony, a Muslim family in Sultanpur district has printed pictures of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita on a wedding card.

Mohammad Salim, a resident of Baghsarai village in Sultanpur, set a new trend when he got the cards for his daughter’s wedding printed in the form of a scroll with picture of Ram and Sita printed on them. The card also has pictures of  a kalash, diya, banana leaves and even a pooja thali filled with coconut, flowers and fruits.

According to Salim, he has friends in equal numbers in the Hindu as well as the Muslim community.

“I wish to bridge the gap between the religious beliefs of Hindus and Muslims. It is a goodwill gesture for my Hindu brothers who also respect our religion with their heart. If we respect their gods, they will definitely show respect for the Muslim community”, he said.

Mr Salim’s daughter Jahana Bano supports her father’s initiative and says, “A number of my friends form the Hindu community were delighted to receive the card and now their parents have no objection to their daughters attending my wedding”.
