Extra flights to evacuate tourists?

The JK government on Friday issued an advisory asking Yatris and tourists to return in view of inputs of possible terror attacks on them.

New Delhi: In view of security advisory issued by J&K government asking tourists and Amarnath Yatris to curtail their travel to the state and return immediately, the government on Friday asked Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to make preparations to see that airlines operating in the state bring out maximum number of tourists from the Jammu and Srinagar airports. Airlines have been asked to operate on short notice and keep ready additional flights in order to evacuate maximum people from the state.

However, till Friday evening no additional flights were operating and the security assessment of airports were found to be satisfactory.

Following the meeting on Friday, national carrier Air India announced waiver of cancellation charges for those traveling in and out of Kashmir.

Airlines like Indigo and Vistara also made similar announcements.
