Odisha Cong sells onion at Rs 40 per kg
BHUBANESWAR: Opposing the skyrocketing price of onion in Odisha, state Congress unit members on Monday resorted to a unique form of protest by selling the vegetable at Rs 40 per kg in Bhubaneswar city. Several Congress leaders and workers were seen selling onion to people at the cheaper price at Master Canteen Square. The price of onion is currently hovering close to Rs 100 per kg across the state. “The poor are suffering due to the onion price hike as they are unable to afford it. The BJP government at the Centre and the BJD Government in Odisha are responsible for this. In order to provide onion to the common man at affordable price, we decided to sell two quintals of onion at Rs 40 per kg,” Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray said. A few days ago, the Congress workers and leaders had resorted to a similar novel protest with regard to alleged mismanagement in procurement of rice from the farmers in western Odisha. They unloaded truckloads of paddy in front of the BJD leaders’ houses and demanded procurement of the produce at government rates.
