Villagers thrash headmaster, peon

The police has taken the headmaster and peon into custody for interrogation into allegation of sexual misconduct.

Balasore: Angry locals on Monday thrashed the headmaster and peon of the 100-bed residential Panchapalli High School at Hatipatuka in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district for allegedly misbehaving with a tribal girl student.

Reports said the villagers entered into school premises and fastened the headmaster and peon with muffler they wore and started beating up without mercy.

The villagers alleged that the peon of the school, Rabindra Sahoo, misbehaved with a Class VIII girl student on Saturday.

“The peon of the school is a habitual offender. Although we brought to the notice of the headmaster Gobardhan Mohapatra about the bad behavior of the peon, he never acted upon it and instead always shielded him,” the villagers said.

Soon after the villagers barged into the school gate and attacked the headmaster and peon with shoes, the police reached the place and rescued the two.
