New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday could not make his maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha on the GST bill as the matter could not be taken up in the House due to the uproar  over the triple talaq bill.

As deputy chairman P.J. Kurien made efforts to take up the the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to states) Amendment Bill, 2017, Congress member Anand Sharma and TMC’s Sukhendu Sekhar Roy wanted their resolutions for referring the triple talaq bill to a select committee, to be taken up before any other listed business.
