Rohingyas' deportation: India slams UN remark
New Delhi: India on Thursday rejected a statement issued by the UN’s office of the high commissioner human rights (OHCHR) from Geneva that had cited UN human rights experts condemning the repatriation of a few Rohingyas to Myanmar earlier this year.
New Delhi said “the interpretation made of the facts of the case, as portrayed in the (OHCHR) statement, are misleading and incorrect”.
India added that it would continue to take action as per the law of the land and the orders of the Indian judiciary to “detect, detain and dep-ort illegal immigrants”.
In a statement from Geneva earlier on Tues-day, the UN OHCHR said, “UN human rights experts condemned India's decision to deport three more Rohingya to Myanmar and urged the authorities to stop such forced deportations.”
The experts expressed their serious concerns with the Indian legal and administrative processes for refugee status determination, said the statement.
