President prays for Jayalalithaa's health, Rajnath speaks to TN governor

Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the Tamil Nadu governor and enquired about Jayalalithaa's health.

Chennai: President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday night said he is praying for the speedy recovery of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, who suffered a cardiac arrest. Home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the acting Tamil Nadu governor C.H. Vidyasagar Rao to inquire about her health.

“Distressed to hear about CM Jayalalithaa suffering a cardiac arrest, my prayers for her speedy recovery,” the President tweeted on his official Twitter account, within an hour of hearing the news.

Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, a close friend of the chief minister, said he was feeling bad on coming to know about her health condition. “Feeling bad to know about the critical condition of TN CM Selvi Jayalalithaa. Praying for her speedy recovery and quick response to the treatment,” he tweeted.

“Wishing Jayalalithaa Hon CM of TN a speedy recovery, Let her be healthy soon,” railway minister Suresh Prabhu tweeted.

Meanwhile, home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the Tamil Nadu governor and enquired about Jayalalithaa’s health.

Mr Rao briefed Mr Singh about the health condition of the chief minister and conveyed that doctors attending to her were taking all necessary steps, sources said.

The sources said Home Ministry officials are in constant touch with the officials of Tamil Nadu government and assessing the situation.
