Mughalsarai is Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar station
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has issued the notification renaming Mughalsarai as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar, amidst protest form the local people.
The notification signed by governor Ram Naik was issued late on Monday night.
The state Cabinet, it may be recalled, had approved the proposal to rename Mughalsarai after the BJP ideologue in June last year and had forwarded the same to the railway ministry for approval.
The railway ministry recently sent its approval to the proposal. The move is seen as bid to revive the legacy of BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the Mughalsarai station in 1968.
Mughalsarai is a major railway hub in northern India and a part of the Chandauli district. It is also the birthplace of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and the Congress was demanding that the town be named after him.
