Ulfa threatens 2 PSUs to vacate, warns of action

Ulfa(I) also sets deadline of six months to remove names of RSS ideologue Upadhyaya from colleges.

Guwahati: Amidst the growing activities of surrendered and pro-talk faction of Ulfa against “outsiders”, the anti-talk faction of Ulfa(I), headed by Paresh Baruah, on Tuesday asked two public sector undertakings — NEEPCO and NHPC — to close down their operations and set a deadline of six months for the state government to remove names of “outsider Indians” from educational institutions in Assam.

The outfit in a statement emailed to local newspapers on Monday also threatened to “take armed action if they fail to comply their dictates”. While referring the decision of Assam government to set up 22 model colleges named after RSS ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya, the Ulfa(I) asked parents to pull out their children from these institutions “in the interest of their security”.

In the statement, the outfit held North-Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) responsible for recent floods in Lakhimpur and directed them to leave. “While NEEPCO’s 405-MW Ranganadi hydel project caused such havoc, it is easily understood what disaster is in store in NHPC’s 2000-MW Lower Subansiri project. It will wipe out the entire downstream area. Hence, both companies should shut down their operations in this (Western South-East Asia) region,” the outfit said while thre-atening to take armed action against them.

The self-style Major Arunoday Asom, who is assistant publicity secretary of the outfit, also targeted the BJP-led alliance government for setting up colleges in the name of RSS ideologue Deendayal Upadyaya.

“It is a conspiracy against the indigenous people of Assam,” he said, adding, “Instead of naming the establishments after sons of soil and others who fought against the British Rule, the government is busy in worshipping those who contributed nothing to Assam. It is an insult.”
