Lucknow: Women, who have lost their husbands in border conflicts, will now work as security personnel in the Banaras Hindu University. According to chief proctor, Prof Royana Singh, the six women security personnel who have been appointed are widows of martyrs. They have been given adequate training for the job. The widows include Kanchan, whose husband was killed on the day of his retirement, Pratima Maurya, Seema Shukla, Premlata Tripathi, Vindhyavasini Pathak and Poonam Pandey. A BHU official said, “The idea is to encourage the widows of martyrs to stand on their own feet and also increase deployment of women security personnel on the campus”. In addition to theses, BHU has deployed 50 women home guards outside girls’ hostels and on the campus.
