BJP bags civic body after winning' MP Congress nominees
Bhopal: BJP here has ensured its victory in polls to a civic body in Madhya Pradesh by “winning” majority of Opposition Congress candidates.
In an interesting turn of events, ruling BJP won the posts of chairman as well as 10 ward members in Sendhwa municipality in Barwani district after their rival Congress candidates bowed out of the fray by extending support to them.
All these Congress candidates later joined BJP.
The Congress candidates withdrew their papers on the last day of withdrawal of nomination to Sendhwa municipality, ensuring elections of BJP candidates uncontested.
Basanti Bai of BJP was elected to the post of chairperson of the civic body uncontested when her Congress rival withdrew her nomination papers. Similarly, 10 of 18 wards in the municipality have gone to BJP candidates after their rival Congress candidates withdrew from the fray.
BJP sources said eight other Congress candidates contesting for posts of ward members in the civic body were also most likely to join the party.
