Puri (Odisha): As part of the ongoing reforms in the country's education system, Class 10 board examinations has been reintroduced.

The government has also decided to introduce board examination for Class 5 and 8. "We have brought back board examinations in Class 10. It has also been decided to conduct examinations in Classes 5 and 8. Those who fail in the examinations, they will be allowed to improve and appear another being detained in the same class. This will bring more accountability and students will concentrate on studies," Union human resources minister Prakash Javadekar said here on Friday. At present, students until Class 8 are promoted to the next class irrespective of their performance. As many as 25 states have approved the move of the Union government through a bill, which has been placed in the Lok Sabha, Mr Javadekar said. "We have taken four major steps for ensuring quality education for all in various schools and one such step — learning outcomes — will be introduced from next month," he said. The Union minister also informed that 15 lakh BEd teachers have registered under the Swayam programme in which they would be given proper training.
