Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has said that his New Year resolution was to turn his party into a national party.

He said that he would take out Rath Yatras, if needed, to expand his party’s base. Mr Yadav was talking to reporters here on Sunday.

It is noteworthy that the SP has already decided to make Mr Yadav the face of the Opposition in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Mr Yadav took a dig at UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath who had recently visited Noida for the inauguration of the Metro magenta line.

“The Noida jinx (which says that a chief minister who visits Noida does not get re-elected) has started working and the results will show up soon. In fact, this time there were two leaders (Prime Minister Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath) and the jinx would work on both,” he stated.

Lashing out at the BJP, Mr Yadav said that while his party spoke of development, the BJP spewed venom to communalise the voters. “Painting everything saffron will not ensure development and the BJP should realize it,” he said.
