SRINAGAR:  A 32- year-old Srinagar resident died due to Covid-19 at a City hospital, taking the toll to nine in Jammu and Kashmir.

The hospital sources said that the victim had contracted the deadly virus apparently while attending on his ailing father who was admitted in the Oncology department of the government-run Super Speciality Hospital at Shireen Bagh here.

The latest COVID-19 victim had had no travel history. He was admitted to the hospital on May 5 with pneumonia. He died late Wednesday night and his samples came out to be positive, the doctors said.

Meanwhile, eighteen more people were tested positive for the COVID-19 in J&K including 15 from the Valley and remaining three from Jammu division on Thursday. With these the number of patients struck by the virus in the Union Territory has risen to 793. Forty-one COVID-19 patients are being treated separately in a hospital in Ladakh’s main town Leh.

The officials said that of the 793 positive cases in J&K, 449 are active and 335 have recovered. Thirteen of those who have recovered were discharged from hospitals on Thursday, the officials added.
