Bhopal: BJP Lok Sabha member Nandkumar Singh Chouhan on Saturday blamed internet for growing incidents of rape in Madhya Pradesh.

Talking to reporters in Damoh in MP on Friday, the ex-chief of Madhya Pradesh unit of BJP said minors have gained access to sleaze pictures and literatures in their smart phones and systems due to internet.

This has caused rise in incidents of rape cases in the state, he said and hastened to add that “It is my personal opinion”.

The exposure to erotic and vulgar pictures and literatures at a tender age has poisoned the minds of the minors, leading them to commit such heinous crimes, he pointed out.

Replying to a question, he said that the cyber cell of police has its limitations to curb the disturbing trend of minors getting access to sleaze pictures and literatures in their smart phones.

“The cyber cell cannot check each and every smart phone being used in the state”, he said.

Mr Chouhan had earlier sparked a controversy when he suspected hand of Pakistan in the recent horrific incident of rape and murder of six-year-old girl in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir.

Gang-rape of an eight-year-old girl at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh on June 26 caused widespread outrage. Half a dozen cases of rape of minor girls have been reported in the state in last two weeks.
