'Unidentified miscreants' vandalise Ambedkar's statue in Haridwar

Local authorities took cognizance of the situation and within few hours installed a new idol.

Dehradun: Adding to the list of statues of leaders being vandalised in various parts of the country, another sculpture of Dalit leader Dr BR Ambedkar was damaged by miscreants on Friday in Uttarakhand's Haridwar.

After a group of unidentified miscreants vandalised the statue, the local authorities took cognizance of the situation and within few hours, installed a new idol.

An investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier on Wednesday, miscreants poured paint on a bust of Dr BR Ambedkar in Tiruvottiyur, Chennai. The police said that the accused was mentally stable.

On Tuesday, another statue of Dr Ambedkar was damaged in Meerut's Mawana.

The statues of Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin in Tripura and Jan Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in Kolkata were vandalised by the miscreants in two separate incidents on Monday and Tuesday respectively.
