Delhi CM Kejriwal slams PM for MPs’ detention
Mr Kejriwal met the TDP MPs at the police station where they were detained.
New Delhi: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday, slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi after 21 Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs were detained by police when they marching towards his residence to demand special status for Andhra Pradesh.
“The demand being made by them is completely just. It is sad that the respectable MPs were sent to jail when they went to meet him. This is not democracy; this is incorrect. This is arrogance. We condemn this and completely support their demand,” the chief minister said after meeting the MPs.
All the MPs, including former Union minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and JC Diwakar Reddy, were bundled in a bus by the police from Race Course Road in the heart of Delhi. They were released two hours later.
Mr Kejriwal met the TDP MPs at the police station where they were detained. All the agitators were detained at the Tughlak Road police station, where the Delhi CM met them as a show of solidarity with their cause.
He also slammed the detention of the MPs on Twitter.
“TDP MPs taken to Tughlak Road Police Stn for demanding Spl status for AP. I went and met them at police stn in solidarity. We condemn their detention and fully support demand for spl status of AP,” he tweeted.
Mr Kejriwal’s solidarity came a day after Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu met the Delhi CM as part of his efforts to mobilise support for the no-confidence motion moved by his party (TDP) against the Centre.
