Modi, Assam CM lauded for NRC
New Delhi: Reiterating its stand on the ongoing process of updating the National Register for Citizens(NRC), the BJP national executive on Sunday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal for implementing the long pending process which it claimed was important for the national security and protect the economic, political and cultural rights of Assamese.
A resolution passed at the BJP’s national executive meeting in this regard said that since its inception in 1980, the party has been supporting the “historic movement” against the illegal migrants, who remained unchecked even after Independence as successive governments lacked willpower to do it.
The resolution also mentioned about the agitation against illegal migrants by the state’s youths, including the All Assam Students Union to “detect, delete and deport” them.
The resolution said when the opposition parties were in power they did not take the issue seriously and failed to understand the gravity of the situation.
It said that no country allows illegal migrants but due to votebank poltics, the opposition parties when in power, failed to show courage to defend the interests of Assamese and today they are standing in support of these illegal migrants.
The party also came out in support of minorities, including Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and Hindus, who are being persecuted in neighbouring countries, to get shelter in India and therefore, supports the Citizen Amedment Bill.
