West Bengal CID arrests industrialist Pawan Ruia from Delhi

Kolkata: Industrialist Pawan Ruia was on Saturday arrested from his New Delhi residence by the criminal investigation department (CID) of West Bengal on cheating charge.

Deputy inspector general of police, CID, Bharat Lal Meena said Ruia was caught from his residence at Hazarat Nizzamuddin under Sunddar Nagar police station area in connection with a case no (1142/16) at Dum Dum police station under sections 420, 406 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code based on the complain of deputy director railway (Kolkata).

The CID was after Ruia since the fire and looting took place at Jessop factory in Dum Dum few months ago after the Mamata Banerjee government handed over the case to the state detective agency. Initiating a case against him, it summoned him four times but Ruia dodged them every time.

After the first summons, Ruia moved the Calcutta High Court for relief. The high court ruled that the CID could not take any coercive measure on him while directing the industrialist to cooperate in the investigation.

Later, the CID moved the Barrackpore Court in North 24 Parganas to seek issuance of arrest warrant against him. The plea was, however, rejected by the judge.
