New Delhi: Taking suo-motu cognisance of the FIR against the Tribune newspaper and its scribe, Rachna Khaira, by the Unique Identification Authority of India, the Press Council of India (PCI) chairman Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has sought a comprehensive report on the facts of the case from the authority.

A statement issued by the PCI stated that chairman Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad has viewed with concern the reports of registration of an FIR against the Tribune Newspaper and its reporter, Ms Rachna Khaira by The Unique Identification Authority of India for exposing the data breach of Aadhaar information for a fee.

“Prima facie satisfied that the reason affects freedom of the press taking suo-motu cognisance of the issue under direction of the chairman, UIDAI, has been issued notice for its reply statement along with a comprehensive report on facts of the case,” the statement added.
