In Budget, Kamal Nath ensures rights to water, health

Bhopal: In a “landmark” Budget, the Kamal Nath government on Wednesday made provisions to ensure right to health and water for the people in Madhya Pradesh.

MP is the first state in the country, set to make provision of health facility and water as a fundamental right of the people.

The Budget 2019-20, presented by state finance minister Tarun Bhanot in the Assembly here, has earmarked Rs 10,472 crore and Rs 1000 crore to implement the proposed right to health and right to water respectively.

The state government has proposed to establish three new medical colleges, six civil hospitals, 70 community health centre, 329 public health centers and 308 sub health centers to ensure right to health for people in the state.

Similarly, the Budget has made an allocation of Rs 1000 crore to implement the right to water proposal, to ensure water particularly to people in urban areas in the state.

Besides, the Budget has made a provision of Rs 4,366 crore for drinking water supply in rural MP, a hike of 46 per cent over the allocation made to the sector in the last Budget.

The Budget has also proposed an allocation of Rs 132 crore for welfare of bovines. Grants for MP Waqf Board and Haj Committee have been increased. The Budget has also proposed to hike honorarium of priests of the temples registered with MP government three times.

The budget has earmarked Rs 8,000 crore to write off crop debt of farmers, left out in the first phase of implementation of loan waiver programme in the state. Farm loans amounting to Rs 7,000 crore of 20 lakh farmers have already been waived.
