Legion hacks into Twitter accounts of journalists Barkha Dutt, Ravish Kumar
New Delhi: The hacker group, which goes by the name Legion, on Saturday hacked into the Twitter accounts of senior NDTV journalists Barkha Dutt and Ravish Kumar. It had earlier attacked the social media profile of Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.
After the hack, the news channel released a statement on Sunday, stating, “Email, Twitter accounts of senior NDTV journalists have been hacked. Attempts are being made to use emails out of context. We are asking relevant authorities, including courts, to take strong action”.
According to reports, Legion first hacked into Dutt’s profile and later attacked Kumar’s account.
“Barkha Dutt e-mail dump coming soon. Stay tuned,” Legion said in one of the tweets. The group posted offensive messages, and email address and password, which they claimed belonged to Dutt.
Posting several tweets on Kumar’s account, Legion said that it will release “1TB of confidential data” if anyone from its group is arrested or die. It also claimed to release leaks on former chairman of Indian Premier League Lalit Kumar Modi next.
Defending its actions, the hackers’ group said, “We use twitter as a means to reach the public. We don’t just hack twitter accounts. Go through the data and find out.”
Legion had earlier compromised the official Twitter profiles of the Indian National Congress and businessman Vijay Mallya earlier this month.
