Extortion call to Bihar minister

The police said intensive search operation has been launched to nab criminals who demanded extortion from the minister.

Patna: Minority affairs minister Khurshid Alam has filed an FIR case against a gangster to who allegedly demanded an extortion of Rs 1 lakh.

The minister in his police complaint stated that “the person who identified himself as Imtiyaz also threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the amount at the earliest.”

The complaint was filed at Purushottampur police station in West Champaran district on Saturday. The police said intensive search operation has been launched to nab criminals who demanded extortion from the minister.

People close to the minister claimed that a similar case was filed by him in June this year.

The incident has created a political storm in Bihar as opposition parties now blame the state government’s laxity in dealing with criminals who have been defying the law and order system. The state government has been under attack after incidents of crime increased in Bihar. The issue of deteriorating law and order was recently raised by the opposition parties in the state Assembly.

The Opposition leaders said that the crime graph has gone up because the good governance policy of CM Nitish Kumar has failed and businessmen and political leaders are being targeted by the criminals. “The situation is beyond control in Bihar,” RJD MLA Bhai Birendra said.
