Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said on Thursday that the BJP had mastered the art of misleading people on all important issues.

Talking to reporters here he said, “People have died due to spurious liquor in Barabanki, but the government is blaming the deaths on cold weather. If a similar incident had taken place in our regime, they would have brought the house down. A proper probe is needed in the incident because there is a possibility of some BJP leaders also being involved in it.”

Mr Yadav also took a dig at the prolonged absence of a DGP in the state. “I have been told that the new incumbent does not want to join the post because he knows that ‘achche din’ are not here. It has been ten days since the state is without a police chief and this, in itself, speaks volumes for the state government,” he said.

The SP chief also said that the same BJP which had slammed him for holding the Sefai Mahotsav is now happily hosting the Gorakhpur Mahotsav. “Why did they criticise us if they had to do the same thing?” he asked.

Referring to the fact that toilets in Etawah districts have also been painted saffron, Mr Yadav asked, “Now who is the BJP insulting by doing this if they claim that saffron is the colour of divinity? This was not expected from a chief minister who is also a saint. This is again an attempt to divert the people’s attention from lack of development.”

Meanwhile, former BSP MLA Mohd. Tahir, two former BJP MLAs Shambhu Chaudhary and Nand Kishore, former MP Lal Chandra Kol, along with their supporters, joined the SP on Thursday.
