Patna: A police inspector’s invo-lvement in spreading a morphed picture of PM Narendra Modi has left the entire police department red-faced.

Officials on Thursday said that Mohammad Islam, who was posted with the Khagaria  police station had circulated a morphed photograph of Mr Modi shaking hands with Hafiz Saeed, the founder of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e–Tayyaba and mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, with a caption “look who is a traitor”.

The police, in its initial investigation, found that the message was circulated from Mohammad Islam’s mobile number.

The matter, sources claimed, had surfaced after some political workers associated with the JD(U) and BJP found the controversial picture being circulated in a Web-based messaging group earlier this month.

The matter was reported to Khagaria SP Meenu Kumari who interrogated the officer and recommended for his suspension after she found his explanations unsatisfactory.

“He has been suspended and a departmental probe is also being initiated against the police inspector. His transfer order has also been withdrawn,” Khagaria SP Meenu Kumari said.
