Lucknow: The students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)  have sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Yogi Adityanath, demanding action against right wing activists for damaging the reputation of the institution over the controversy over the Jinnah portrait.

The Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union, in its letter, has asked the state and centre to clear the air over the matter and take action against those who allegedly entered into the varsity campus on May 2 and indulged in an unprovoked attack on students.

The AMU Alumni Forum in the United Arab Emirates has also sent a memorandum to the Consulate General of India in their country, seeking prompt action against right-wing activists for vitiating the atmosphere of the prestigious university in Aligarh district.

The memorandum, addressed to the President of India, claims that the armed hooligans were planning to attack former vice president Hamid Ansari, who was visiting the campus on May 2.
